What I Like

Okay, me and the kitchen are having a falling out of sorts. I want to go in there. Really and truly. But my stomach says no. It hates the kitchen. It hates everything in there except for cucumbers, pickles and dry cereal.

One thing that has been consistent has been cold drinks because it's too hot outside to live. I love me a strawberry Frappucino! We have a Starbucks nearby, but even for a wee one it's almost $4! I love Orange Julius too, which are also ridiculously expensive. We grew up making them at home and they're easy if you have a blender and some frozen OJ concentrate. So here's to cheap and tasty cold drinks you can make at home for mere pennies.

Orange Julius

6 ounces frozen orange juice concentrate
1/2 cup whole milk
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup sugar (optional...I never make it with sugar, but you might like it sweeter than me. You could also use Splenda)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
10 ice cubes (or more depending on how thick you like it)

-Put all ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth and frothy.
-You can adjust ingredients to your liking.

Strawberry 'Frappucino'

1/2 cup frozen strawberries in light syrup, defrosted but still cold
1 cup of crushed ice
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
1 cup half & half
canned whipped cream to finish

-Put all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth.
-Top with whipped cream swirl if desired.
-You can adjust the ingredients to your liking.

Dobby's Butterbeer
Now I know this is not a cold drink, but since Harry Potter is all done, I thought I'd throw it in as I saw it online and lots of people said it was wonderful and just what they thought butterbeer would taste like. I myself have not made it, so let me know if it's worth trying!

1 1/2 cups milk
2 teaspoons honey
1 tablespoon butter
1 teaspoon cinnamon
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons hot chocolate powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 ounce butterscotch syrup (or butterscotch schnapps for the adult version)

-Melt butter and honey together in a small saucepan.
-Next add milk, sugar, vanilla, and butterscotch syrup.
-Microwave or heat on stovetop until it reaches the desired temperature.
-Mix in hot chocolate powder and cinnamon. Enjoy!
